Pixels

An outgrowth of photography that coincided with the move from film to digital photography. Without the physical limitations of film I took more photos. With an external harddrive and some sentimentality, I saved even the poorest of images believing that it held some visual information that was invaluable. The photos are lovingly worked and stripped raw like fibers spun into thread. Their layers weave a tapestry of places unseen but felt.

My process is playful and explorative. Descisions are made instinctually. Often I start with a photo of a person or place that has a strong meaning or feeling for me. I try to tap into my emotions and ask, "Is this how it feels?" Images are worked and put away to be taken up again later. They are nurtured and are without completion. An adaptive and sensuous erosion of pixels—communion, degradation, and transcendence.

What began with a 'flawed' photograph, dim and blurry, came to evoke much more than any perfect-smiling image ever could. There was something in the shadow of our silhouettes and the soft vibrations of our movement only evident to a more sensitive vision, another way of seeing, a different eye—the camera lens. Where do I begin and my friend end? An aesthetic guided by instict. I added other images collected and cherished over the years in hope that they may transcend their original circumstance to convey the compassion and peace we occupy together.
